PAWS to hold family event “Oktoberpets” - Pet Expo

The Pet Adoption and Welfare Society of Carteret’s (PAWS) much anticipated event “OktoberPets” pet expo is scheduled for Saturday, October 18th. This years’ event venue will once again be the beautiful Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City.
Doors will open at 10:00 A.M. and close at 5 P.M. Proceeds from the event are designated to help build PAWS new Pet Adoption Center. Admission is one dollar per person and one dollar per pet. Family rates will also available. Healthy, well behaved pets with owners are welcome and must remain leashed.
Contests include: Best Kisser, Best Beggar, Best Trick, and Best Costume. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded. Other events and games include: Microchip Clinic $35, AKC Good Citizen Certification $10, Vendors, Food, Bake ‘n Bark sale, Obedience
Drill Demo, Fun Rally, Musical Dogs, Blessing of Pets by Rev. Pollock of St. Andrews Church, Agility Demo, Clicker Training Demo, and a Showcase of Adoptable Pets by PAWS and Local Area Rescues.
“Come-As-You-Are-In-Your-Classic-Car” a classic car Cruise In will be held outside in front of the Civic Center in the EDC parking lot from 10 A.M. – 3 P.M. All classic and vintage cars, muscle cars, street rods, motorcycles and vehicles of interest are encouraged to cruise-in to this free, non-show event. Food will also be served outside.
Celebrity Mistress of Ceremonies this year is the charming and energetic animal lover Ms. Coleen Maloney of WCTI Channel 12, New Bern along with her own canine buddy. Ms. Maloney has presided over the festivities many times for PAWS during the former Pets in the Park and her fans eagerly anticipate her return.
PAWS recently received a gift of land to build their Pet Adoption Center. OktoberPets kicks off an eighteen month long campaign to raise funds needed to build this facility. Donations will be accepted and pledge cards available at this event. Mr. Bob Worthington, Project Director, will have the initial plans on display all day.
