A woman wanted for a bank robbery in Muncie, Indiana, was apprehended this morning in New Bern.
Desiree Jeannette HANCOCK, was located at 1031 Queen St., around 8:30 Tuesday morning, after police received a tip that she was staying at that residence. Police believe the home belongs to a relative of HANCOCK.
Investigators from Muncie, Indiana had been looking for HANCOCK, 11/18/1983, and her brother. Muncie police believe they robbed a Mutual Federal Savings Bank at gunpoint in January 2008. They may have also stolen a vehicle.
HANCOCK was placed in the Craven County jail on a Fugitive Warrant and $255,000 bond. Authorities in Indiana have been notified and are arranging her extradition back to that state.
The New Bern Police Department is committed to Community Policing. Citizens are encouraged to become a “Partner in Policing,” by reporting suspected illegal activity to the New Bern Police Department’s TIPS line at (252) 636-5034 or the Craven County Crime Stoppers line at 633-5141.
