RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - An emergency official says an early morning storm left at least two dead, one injured and one missing in two communities east of Raleigh.
State police spokeswoman Patty McQuillan says a woman died in Kenly and a 7-year-old child died in Wilson. Their identities were not immediately available.
McQuillan says the storm passed through the Kenly area around 3:30 a.m. and through Wilson about a half hour later, damaging homes and felling trees.
She says the woman was found dead in the wreckage of her home. The woman’s son is missing and his father was taken to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh for treatment of injuries.
McQuillan said she had no further information on the child who died in Wilson.
She says a Red Cross Shelter has been opened at Kenly Free Will Baptist church.
