At approximately 11:30 this morning (Sat, 11/29/08), an automobile collided with two trains at a railway crossing near downtown Rocky Mount.

The driver of the vehicle, Pierre Tucker, attempted to proceed through the railway crossing on Goldleaf Street near Main Street by driving around the cross gates.  Mr. Tucker was attempting to beat the CSX train traveling south but failed to notice the Amtrak train traveling north, and his Nissan automobile collided with both trains. Mr. Tucker escaped out the passenger door immediately before the CSX train collided with his vehicle.

28-year-old Tucker suffered no reported injuries.  The Rocky Mount Police Dept. Officers have charged Tucker with careless and reckless driving and a crossing gate violation.  No other motor vehicles were involved in the accident, and no other passengers were in Tucker’s automobile.
