Coast Guard to conduct storm warning flights

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Coast Guard is continuing to prepare for Tropical Storm Hanna, a weather system that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is currently tracking off the coast of the Bahamas, today.

A Coast Guard C-130 crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., is scheduled to conduct a storm overflight to alert mariners off the coasts of North Carolina and Virginia that a Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to be making it’s way up the east coast.

Media members intrested in accompanying the Coast Guard during the over flight should contact the 5th Coast Guard District Public Affairs Office by 9 a.m. at (757) 398-6269 for reservations.

The Coast Guard is requesting all interested media arrive at Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City no later than 11:00 a.m. today.
