MANTEO, N.C. (AP) - A prosecutor says no criminal charges will be filed in the deaths of two Dare County children left in a car where temperatures reached 135 degrees in June.
The Virginian-Pilot reports Thursday that District Attorney Frank Parrish said the decision was made not to charge the children’s mother, Amy Lynn Cooper, after internal and external reviews.
Parrish said the deaths were a tragedy but criminal charges would not “be supported by probable cause.“
Authorities said 19-month-old Kassandra Daniels and 2½-year-old Amariyah Daniels were discovered in a neighbor’s car near Cooper’s mobile home in Manns Harbor.
