This week, several things got our viewers hot.
Of course politics is always a hot button issue, but suprisingly so is how I referred to a medal that a Marine was given because of heroism in Iraq.
But as usual, how we reported on the cost of fuel hit a cord with our viewers as well.
Gas prices began to tumble following news that crude oil prices were dropping like a stone and John Cayton questions my response to a Viewer’s Voice email about the difference in gas prices on the coast and inland.
One of the e-mails mentioned the fact that gas prices at the beach are lower than they are in Greenville. Allan stated that a local gas company was contacted, maybe Hess, to get an explanation. Alan said “competition” was the reason and said nothing else.
Well we thought others might want more too. We have done many stories on this over the years. Even AAA Carolina says the difference in prices is based on competition. Inland station operators say they have to truck the fuel in where as the coastal stations are close to the port.
And cities with more cars, like Greenville, have more demand for gas so prices are higher.
And on politics, this from Bonnie, “I noticed that when Kay Hagan refuted Elizabeth Dole’s ad about the Godless American segment, she never says she did not meet with them or take money from them, just that she is a Christian.“
And from “diswife” on our story about a young Marine who was given a Bronze Star, “Instead of saying the Marine “won” the medal, it should be awarded. Receiving a medal like a Bronze Star is not something they go out to win.“
Well viewer, as a veteran who also has a Bronze Star award, I can tell you, you are correct, sort of.
The fact is that both are correct.
The Marine was indeed awarded the Bronze Star by the Marine Corps but he also won the medal for heroism in wartime.
The military itself uses both.

I sent in my registration form in on October 7 to have it returned to me. I never registered to vote so I decided to on Nov 1 at the Winterville location. Upon arriving, I met a man at the door and told him this was my first time voting and i asked him if I had everything (the packet I had included bills with my name & address & my registration form) as far as ID I left it in the car by mistake. It was 12:51pm and after taking a few steps to get ID out the car, I was told by the ladies inside that the polls were closed and I couldn’t vote and when I was asking them a question, they looked at me, smiled and walked away. If they stay open til 1pm, why wasn’t I allowed to enter at 12:53pm? I was looking forward to this once in a lifetime experience and I’ve been pushed aside twice and I feel I was discriminated against. There were many others there that had the door closed and when we tried to ask questions, they walk away. How can your vote count when they won’t let you in to vote?
