(AP) - John McCain says Barack Obama’s plans to change Washington sound a lot like continuing the same old problems: raising taxes and expanding the federal government.
In his weekly radio message, McCain says real change will come with a top-to-bottom review of government spending, aimed at rooting out waste and abuse.
McCain says Obama has discussed plans to raise taxes only on the rich. But McCain says Obama voted in the Senate for tax hikes affecting people taking home $32,000 a year.
McCain says the differences between him and Obama are coming into sharper focus. Among other things, McCain says he’s willing to break rank with his party “when principle and good sense demand it.“ Specifically, he mentioned speaking out against what he saw as mistakes in the Iraq war.
