SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - IBM plans to invest 300 million dollars building new centers that can store a company’s data and deliver it remotely in case of disaster or other meltdown.
Called “cloud computing,” the technology that IBM is using in 13 new facilities lets companies access backups of their critical computer files over secured Internet connections, instead of housing all the data internally.
Many companies are working on cloud computing.
IBM says its plan is drawing attention especially from customers concerned about severe weather and political instability, including the war between Russia and Georgia.
