GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Kmart is laying off more than 300 workers from stores in Greensboro and Burlington.
Gov. Mike Easley’s office announced the layoffs Friday, saying the retailer filed a notice with the state saying it would begin releasing workers Dec. 9.
The News & Record of Greensboro reports the notice says the stores are changing formats and did not indicate if they were closing. The company did not respond to messages from the newspaper.
State officials say 147 workers will be laid off from the Bridford Parkway Kmart in Greensboro, while 159 workers will lose their jobs at the Burlington store.
Easley says the state will provide help to find other jobs to the workers.
