HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina school board said teacher layoffs are a real possibility if the economy continues to decline.
The Times-News of Hendersonville reported Tuesday that the Henderson County School Board revised its policy so length of service isn’t the sole factor in cutting personnel.
The policy now includes seven factors to be considered such as performance ratings, the status of a teacher’s license and service in extra duty positions. A recommendation by the superintendent also will be considered.
County school superintendent Stephen Page told the board at its Monday night meeting that future layoffs are possible, though no jobs have been cut for the current school year.
