NC foreclosure filings up to record levels in 2008

For the first time in state history, homeowners filed more than 50-thousand property foreclosures in just one year.

Filings shot up 9-percent to record levels in 2008.

And experts say it could have been worse had it not been for initial voluntary moratoriums and state programs that eased the mortgage meltdown.

State officials say the federal government failed to provide adequate assistance for homeowners.
