Allan Hoffman has been the Eyewitness News Nine 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. anchor for 20 years. He's been in the broadcast news profession for more three decades. Allan has covered the major events of the east and the movers and shakers that made it happen.

His 33 years in broadcasting took him to Miami, Huntsville Alabama, Louisiana and even to the mountains of North Carolina in Asheville.

His awards include a National Emmy for public service, Newscaster of the Year for Eastern North Carolina 12 years running and The National Association of Broadcasters award for Friend In Need.

Allan's coverage of the great flood of 1999 was instrumental in WNCT winning an "Edward R. Morrow" Award for distinction in news coverage, as well as the "Service to America" award for community service and many others.

Allan is active in the community. For eight years, he has served as an adjunct instructor at East Carolina University where he taught news writing, speech and announcing, as well as courses in broadcast history.

He is a founding member of the Pitt County Infant Mortality Task Force, two-time past president of the North Carolina Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and past president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 272. He has served for many years on the board of the Eagle Scout Program of Pitt County and he has been a board member for the Crime Stoppers program for 10 years.

During his service as an Army combat helicopter pilot in the Vietnam war, Allan won the Distinguished Flying Cross for Valor, Purple Heart, Bronze Star with V, Air Medal with the numeral 23, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and other awards. He is still an active pilot who flies both fixed wing and rotary aircraft.

Allan and his wife Barbara have two wonderful children, Marlo is a graduate of ECU, she is married and works as a producer at WNCT, Brandon is an Executive Chef and Graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York.
