PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers have to set their rosters at 53 players by the end of the weekend. Backup quarterbacks Landry Jones and Joe Webb are hoping to stick around. Jones and Webb will get an extended look on Thursday night when the two teams wrap up the preseason.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Cam Newton says he feels great and "there's no doubt" in his mind he'll be ready to play in the Panthers season opener Sept. 7 against Tampa Bay. Carolina's fourth-year quarterback is recovering from a hairline fracture to multiple ribs and says he's improving with each day.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina coach Larry Fedora says the team has suspended four players for this weekend's season opener, a day after a report of an alleged hazing altercation that left a walk-on receiver with a possible concussion. Fedora said Wednesday the four players were suspended for a "violation of team policy," but offered no other details.

MONROE, La. (AP) - Wake Forest is rebuilding with a new coach, a true freshman quarterback and new starters at a range of key positions. On Thursday night, coach Dave Clawson, quarterback Josh Wolford and the revamped Demon Deacons make their 2014 debut at Louisiana-Monroe.
