The Storm Team's Chief Meteorologist Steve Jerve provides your workday with weather forecasts on News Channel 8's 5, 5:30, 6 and 11pm newscasts.
Steve played basketball at the University of Minnesota at Morris and worked his way to a bachelor's degree in speech. He then went on to do extensive graduate study in meteorology at Jackson State University and Mississippi State University.
At his first job at KAAL-TV in Austin, Minnesota, Steve worked as a weather anchor, reporter, photographer and weekend anchor. He also extended his talents as a producer and editor. His next move was to WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi where he became the main weather anchor. Steve then moved to WFTV in Orlando and took over as the 5pm weather anchor. He was able to experience first hand the power of tropical storms while covering Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Steve has also covered hurricanes Gilbert and Hugo.
He then went to KDNL in St. Louis as chief meteorologist. He won an Emmy Award there in 1996 for Weathercasting in the Mid America region.
Steve is a full member of the American Meteorological Society and has earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation.
In his spare time, Steve could be found on a plane, traveling to all corners of the globe. His passions include World War II history, cars, airplanes, movies and science.
