Typical summer storms expected in Tampa Bay

Updated:
"When you think of typical summer weather in the Tampa Bay area, that's what we are expecting today," said Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Leigh Spann.

The day starts out with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. It warms up quickly.

"We make it to near 90 degrees by lunchtime, and highs will be in the low to mid 90s," said Spann. A few storms will start to pop up by mid afternoon east of I-75, but most of the rain will hold off until late in the afternoon and early evening hours.

"The storms push toward the coast, and the strongest storms and heaviest rain will fall after 4 p.m. closer to the beaches," said Spann. The rain will finally make it into the Gulf of Mexico by 8 p.m., and the rest of the night stays dry.
