David Sawyer

Chief Meteorologist David Sawyer puts over two decades of forecasting experience to work for you as a member of Storm Team 9.

From 1990 until 2004, David covered the weekend weather anchor duties in addition to serving as the Morning and Noon Meteorologist at WNCT-TV. During this time, David was a part of the award-winning continuous coverage of eastern North Carolina's worst natural disaster following Hurricane Floyd in 1999. David will always remember the honor of serving the viewers dealing with such devastating losses and inconveniences by the flood waters that covered the WNCT 9 On Your Side viewing area.

In 2004, David was offered an opportunity to serve as Chief Meteorologist at the CBS television station in Birmingham, Alabama. David spent 5 years forecasting complex weather patterns in central Alabama which included outbreaks of severe weather that often involved tornadoes.

On July 27, 2009, David was privileged to return to Storm Team 9 as Chief Meteorologist. He looks forward each day to keeping WNCT-TV 9 viewers updated with an accurate forecast as well as alerted to any threats of severe weather.

David and his wife, Kathy, were married in 1989 and have five children. As a family, the Sawyers enjoy camping, sports and participating in church-related activities.

In addition to his enjoyment of studying and forecasting the weather, David's passion for teaching and serving others enhances his desire to participate in school assemblies or other community gatherings when invited. If you would like David to be a guest speaker at your next event, please contact him at dsawyer@wnct.com.
