Cooler and Drier Air Moving into the East

GREENVILLE, N.C. -  I'm WNCT 9 First Alert Meteorologist, David Sawyer, with your forecast for eastern North Carolina.

TONIGHT: As an unusually strong summer cool front clears the coast, the storm threat will also end. Cooler and drier air behind the front, combined with clearing skies, will allow temperatures to drop to the middle 60s inland and lower 70s along the coast. Winds will become westerly around 10 mph and turn northerly late.

TUESDAY: Cooler and drier Canadian air continues to spill southward causing our temperatures to feel more comfortable with lower humidity.  Tuesday afternoon will have highs in the lower to middle 80s with northerly breezes around 10 mph.  Although a stray shower can't be ruled out, rain chances will be minimal.  Enjoy this break to the summertime heat and humidity!

TROPICS: A tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic Ocean has a medium to high chance for development over the next few days. It has a 50 percent chance of development within the next 48 hours and a 70 percent chance within the next 5 days. We are keeping a close eye on this system as the dry air begins to moisten and the environment becomes a little more favorable for this to become our next tropical system to track.

A LOOK AHEAD:  Dry air will keep rain chances minimal for the majority of the work week.  However, another batch of showers and storms my affect your upcoming weekend plans.  For more weather details, check out your WNCT 9 First Alert Weather's Extended Forecast by CLICKING HERE.
