People who live on or near Seymour Johnson Air Force Base may notice some unusual activity as the base conducts an active shooter exercise Monday.
From around 10:30 a.m. to about 1 p.m. there may be increased noise, emergency response vehicle presence and possible traffic congestion on and near the base.
The base will operate under increased protection conditions, causing gate closures and a possible base-wide lock down.
Active shooter exercises like this one are critical for overall readiness to ensure the safety of the community in case a scenario should actually happen.
