Neighbor found GUILTY in ditch dispute murder

By Chris Brown

Onslow County, NC - A jury found William Littleton guilty.  He's been sentenced to life without parol.  An appeal is being filed.

Jury deliberations began this afternoon in the murder trial of William Littleton. Littleton is convicted of shooting 72 year old Luther Kaemming after an argument over a roadside ditch escalated out of control.

Both sides delivered closing arguments this afternoon, Littleton's defense attorney arguing that Littleton only shot Kaemming in self defense.

Littleton claims Kaemming was trying to run over his 2 year old son with the tractor he was riding on, and says shooting him was the only way to save his son.

The State argues Littleton shot Kaemming in cold blood, saying the angles of the shots combined with the long running feud between the two, was proof enough.

The arguments stemmed from a drainage ditch in Littletons yard. Littleton had filled in the ditch with cement, to prevent his kids from falling into it. Problem was, with the ditch filled, every time it rained, neighbors yards would flood.

Littleton went back and forth with his neighbors over the issue, resulting in Littletons wife being found guilty of illegally obstructing a ditch.
