On September 2, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious fire at 82 Ann St. in Chocowinity. An abandoned trailer located at this address was set on fire and completely destroyed by the flames.
The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted several interviews.
On September 15, 2008, Investigator Josh Shiflett applied for and obtained arrest warrants charging William Lane Jefferson, age 18, of Ann St. in Chocowinity and Steven Leroy Meynardie, age 34, of Ann St. in Chocowinity with Felony Burning Certain Buildings.
William Jefferson was arrested on September 15, 2008 and was held on a $1,000 secured bond issued by Magistrate D. Sadler. Steven Meynardie was also arrested on September 15th and held on a $50,000 secured bond issued by Magistrate Sadler.
Meynardie was held on this charge and other charges that were the result of a separate investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office.
A juvenile petition was also obtained for a juvenile that was found to be involved in the burning of the trailer.
On September 4, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sex offense that occurred at a residence on Ann St. in Chocowinity, NC. The victim reported that the victim was sexually assaulted by a family member. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted several interviews in conjunction with the Department of Social Services.
On September 15, 2008, Investigator Josh Shiflett applied for and obtained an arrest warrant charging Steven Meynardie again, only this time with Second Degree Forcible Sex Offense and Sexual Activity by a Substitute Parent. Meynardie was arrested on September 15 and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond issued by Magistrate D. Sadler.
