Man Injured in Beaufort Plant Accident

By Philip Jones/Eyewitness News 9

A Carteret County man is in the hospital tonight after being seriously injured on the job. It happened just this evening at the Atlantic Veneer Plant in Beaufort. EMS workers say a 46-year-old man was seriously injured after his right leg got caught in the pulleys of a conveyor belt.   It took emergency workers about an hour and a half to get him out. They had to use hydraulic tools to cut away pieces of machinery.

"It’s just a great big conveyor belt system and it has pulleys in it that run the belt real fast. And I’m assuming somehow his clothes got pulled in to the machinery, and it pulled his leg in as well," said Beaufort EMS Chief William Willis.

He is at PCMH but is injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this point. They haven't released the man’s name yet.
