GREENVILLE, N.C. - I remember when I listened to the “cool” music in the car. Now I hear the Baby Einstein DVD on repeat or Kids Bop in the CD player. I used to leave my house ready to go…hair done, makeup in place and my clothes matched. Now I’m running out of the door in the morning with a hat pulled low on my head, an old (actually let’s call it vintage so I sound more hip) t-shirt and some baggy sweatpants. I actually walk my daughter to class like that. Did I mention my hat is a Channel 9 hat?? Yes...I am a walking billboard for our station. It’s a scary situation for all parties involved. I used to stare at the clock on a Friday afternoon and be deep in thought about what outfit I was going to wear that night when I hit the town. Now I daydream about those baggy sweatpants, my couch and a week’s worth of DVR’d shows.
Luxury used to mean a five-star vacation for me. Now, luxury means being able to sleep in until at least 8:00 on Saturday mornings…a clean house…folded laundry and school lunches made the night before. Oh yeah, and a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked while watching Real Housewives of New Jersey. (Yeah…I admit it…I’m addicted)
I decided to embrace my new “cool factor.” I dance with my kids in the kitchen to their music…make up funny songs about them…chase them around the yard…make a mean glass of chocolate milk…and those Saturday mornings? Yeah, we’re all in bed together until 8:00 watching cartoons. They think I’m pretty damn cool.
