BEAUFORT, N.C. - The Carteret County woman accused of covering up her aunt’s murder went before a judge.
Today was the first court appearance for 63-year-old Phyllis Williams. She’s charged with accessory after the fact, obstruction of justice, and failure to report a death.
Deputies say Williams helped her daughter Rhonda Hagan, cover up the murder of one of their 90-year-old relatives, Goldie Hall.
Deputies say Hagan, arrested in September, killed Hall over money.
“Anytime you’re involved in a death investigation, it’s a very difficult case, especially one like this, where you have such a fine lady, Ms. Hall, who was 90-years-old, well-respected in the community,” said Scott Thomas, Carteret County District Attorney.
Williams’ husband Rodney told 9 On Your Side that his wife is guilty, because she helped her daughter transport Hall’s body.
Williams is in jail under a $300,000 bond.

BEAUFORT, N.C. - The second suspect arrested in the murder of Goldie Hall is due in court Thursday.
The Carteret County Sheriff's Office says they arrested 63-year-old Phyllis Henderson Williams. She's the mother of Rhonda Hagan.
9 On Your Side spoke with William's husband, Rodney. He says his wife's involvement in the crime stems from trying to help Rhonda.
"Now my daughter is involved. But my wife told me that when all this happened, she was there. But she said "I done what my heart said, not what my mind said." She helped my daughter load the body and that was it," said Rodney Williams.
Hagan is still in custody charged with the murder of her great aunt, Goldie Hall, in a dispute over money. An autopsy showed Hall died from blunt force trauma to the head.
The case has remained an active investigation and on Wedenesday, District Attorney Scott Thomas authorized criminal charges against Hagan’s mother, Phyllis Williams, for her role in the case.
Thomas said, "Mrs. Williams has been charged today based upon her conduct after the death of Mrs. Hall. This case remains an active investigation and additional charges against Mrs. Hagan and Mrs. Williams are possible. Mrs. Williams will appear in Carteret County District Court on Thursday for her felony first appearance. Again, I would like to commend Sheriff Buck and his team for their work investigating this tragic death. "
Williams is charged with Accessory after the Fact of Murder, Obstruction of
Justice, and Failing to Report a Death, all felony crimes. She's in the
Carteret County Jail under a $300,000 bond.
