An investigation is underway after a deputy shot a pit bull in Pitt County.
It happened Wednesday in a mobile home park off Old River Rd. The deputy was there investigating the larceny of a vehicle.
We're told he was talking to a witness when the witness's pit bull came out from under the home.
A spokesperson for the Pitt County Sheriff's Office tells us the deputy started backing as the dog kept getting closer. When he couldn't back up anymore, and the dog came within three feet of him, he took out his gun and shot him.
The Sheriff's Office tells us Animal Control responded to the shooting. We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
