
Greenville Police arrested a soldier accused of murdering a woman in a Colorado Springs hotel.
24-year-old Montrell Mayo surrendered to police at the Pitt County Magistrate's Office Sunday. He's charged with first degree murder.
Detectives in Colorado Springs say they found a dead body in a hotel room early Sunday morning. They believe she was killed Thursday or Friday.
Police say Mayo, a soldier in the U.S. Army who was stationed at Fort Carson, is originally from Greenville and has family in the area. A Fort Carson spokeswoman said Mayo is a supply specialist for the 759th Military Police Batalion.
Mayo made had his first court appearance Monday morning and waived his extradition. His waiting for Colorado detectives to arrive and pick him up.
Colorado Springs officers are expected to arrive in Greenville in the next few days to continue the investigation.
Police are not releasing the victim's name until the family is notified and an autopsy is done.
