Men charged with stealing copper in Beaufort County

PANTEGO, N.C. -

Two men are behind bars accused of stealing copper wire from irrigation systems across the east.

Deputies in Beaufort County charged 22-year-old Joshua Hoggard and 24-year-old James Johnson.

Investigators say they stole 1,000 feet of control wire from each irrigation system on Christian School Road in Pantego. Deputies say the two men did the same thing in Bertie, Chowan, Martin, and Washington Counties.

Johnson and Hoggard are already in jail on similar charges from other counties.
