A pre-kindergarten teacher in Beaufort County is a million dollars richer, after hitting the jackpot on a scratch-off ticket.
Brenda Corprew is the first million dollar winner in the North Carolina Education Lottery's Gold Bullion game.
She
bought the winning ticket at a Stop-N-Go gas station just blocks away
from her house. The store's manager, Bashar Salem says he was in
disbelief when Brenda's husband, Melvin told him they won.
"He
told me he wanted to go get his wife and come back. And when he showed
me the ticket, I got shocked really because I didn't believe it," said
Salem.
Salem says now people coming from around Washington and beyond in hopes of buying another big winner from his store.
"I
have some new people coming from like far away. I had two or three
people today coming from Greenville to play the scratch ticket. You know
they think maybe they get some luck too you know," said Salem.
He says he's known Brenda for years and says she deserved to hit the jackpot.
Lottery
officials tell us the Corprews will take the cash option on the million
dollar prize. That will give them a little more than $400,000 after
taxes.
