Dare County responds to school threat

Posted: Updated:

The Dare County Sheriff's Office arrested 26-year-old Stefan Gray Schwartz on Wednesday after an investigation following threats against a local school.

A Cape Hatteras Secondary School Resource Officer received threats on February 11 targeting persons at the school. Investigators say they traced the threats back to Schwartz and notified deputies, who then obtained a search warrant for his Buxton home. Deputies did not find any firearms or explosives, however they seized various items from Schwartz's home before arresting the suspect and taking him to nearby Dare County Detention Center under a $204,000 bond.

The Dare County Sheriff's Office has increased its security on school grounds since the Newtown tragedy last December.
