A few sprinkles didn't stop an afternoon of baseball in Kinston.
It's the 3rd annual Freedom Classic at Grainger Stadium.
The Naval Academy beat the Air Force Academy three to one in the opening game of the four game series.
Play will continue this weekend with game two on Saturday and a double header on Sunday.
Organizers say while the two teams are competing against each other now, the players will all be on the same side after graduation.
"The seniors that are playing on the field now, when they graduate in May, they'll be leaving and some of them will end up in Afghanistan. So it's really a chance to honor them and to honor all of our veterans," said Bill Ellis, Dir. Parks and Recreation.
Saturday's game will start at five o'clock at Grainger Stadium and a double header is scheduled to start at 10 o'clock Sunday morning.
Tickets are five dollars and active duty service members get in for free.
