"Heart Truth Social" sheds light on heart disease

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

More women will die from heart disease than every cancer combined.

It's shocking information. What's even more shocking is that women living in eastern Carolina are at a high risk of developing the disease.

9 On Your Side teamed up with Vidant Health on Tuesday night for the annual "Heart Truth Social." More than 300 people packed the Rock Springs ball room to learn more about how to live a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Featured speaker, Eliz Green, shared her story of survival. Green suffered a heart attack when she was only 35 years-old...and she was 7-months pregnant with twins at the time.  Green said women need to "take a moment, decide what is really important in your life and start making changes."

Our own Amanda Goodman emceed the social for the third year in a row. Jeff Varner surprised Amanda on stage to show his support for women's heart health.
