The haggling over Hagel has come to an end.
The Senate voted 58-41 in favor of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense.
Earlier Tuesday, the Senate overrode a filibuster.
The vote ends a heated fight over the president's choice for his second-term national security team.
Hagel will succeed Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, who is stepping down after four years as CIA director and Pentagon chief.
