Vacant house catches fire in Kinston

Posted: Updated:

Fire crews responded to a house fire at a vacant home in Kinston early Wednesday morning.

The home at 407 North Orion Street caught fire around 2:15 a.m. Commander Alex Manness tells us the vacant home was about 50% involved when they arrived. He says about half the home was destroyed in the blaze.

The cause of that fire is undetermined. Power was not turned on at the time the fire started.

This is the second fire at a vacant home this week. The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and SBI ruled a fire on Dogwood Lane arson. That home was for sale when it caught fire Saturday night. A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office says someone used an accelerant to burn the home. No arrests have been made in the case.
