Washington Fire Department kicks off its "Heroes Campaign"

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, N.C. -

Thursday, 9 On Your Side had the honor of speaking to a room of heroes.

The Washington Fire Department hosted the event.

And those firefighters just got a new rescue truck.

The room was full of volunteers who give of themselves to those who need.

Red Cross volunteers, covering all of eastern North Carolina, they do so much. Since July 2012, they've helped 600 families and responded to more than 400 local disasters.

They need your help raising money to keep this great effort going. So they kicked off their "Heroes Campaign" today. It costs $1,200 to help just one family.

So get involved. Donate. Help them out. All the money raised stays in eastern North Carolina.

9 On Your Side will be helping with our annual telethon in April.

So do what you can. You can find out how to donate online by clicking here.
