The couple charged with killing a Kinston woman will not go to trial together.
Monday, a superior court judge in Raleigh ordered separate trials for Grant and Amanda Hayes. Both were set to go to trial together next month.
The judge decided that was a bad idea, saying there were concerns of a possible mistrial and denying each defendant their right to a fair trial.
Both are charged in the death of Kinston native, and Grant Hayes' ex-girlfriend, Laura Ackerson.
She went missing in July of 2011. Her remains were found a few weeks later in Richmond, Texas, where Amanda Hayes' sister lives.
