
A fire chief has died, battling a brush fire.
It happened Sunday afternoon around 3:18 p.m.
Officials say 45-year-old Chief Scott Morrisson with the Knotts Island Volunteer Fire Department became ill and went into respiratory and cardiac arrest while fighting a brush fire.
Currituck County EMS treated Morrison at the scene. He was transported to a Virginia hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
