VATICAN CITY -
Cardinals gathered to
pray inside St. Peter's Basilica as they prepare to choose a new Pope.
They're waiting for the final electing
cardinals to arrive in Rome tomorrow to set a date for the conclave.
Workers are busy inside the Sistine
Chapel turning the famous landmark into a polling site for the cardinals.
These are the stoves
that will burn the secret ballots after each round of voting.
And in an unexpected development today,
the U.S. cardinals suddenly canceled their popular daily briefing, after
concerns that details of the election proceedings would be leaked.
The Vatican is denying that it pressured
the Americans to keep quiet. Still some Cardinals are talking to the media.
The Vatican did reveal that a profile of
the new Pope started to emerge during meetings today. This, as an Italian
magazine published the first paparazzi photo of 'pope emeritus' walking in the
gardens at his summer retreat.
The
American cardinals were the only ones holding daily briefings with reporters.
They say they wanted to give people a better understanding of the process.
