Attorney General releases "Top Ten Consumer Complaints of 2012"

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Do not call violations, lending, and telemarketing fraud are all scams you, the consumer, complained to the Attorney General's office about last year.

Thursday, the state released the top ten complaints consumers made in 2012.

Do Not Call violations topped the list.

Consumers complained about continuing to get unwanted calls after they placed a number on the Do Not Call registry.

Second, complaints about lending.

Consumers say they're getting phony calls about interest rate hikes, charges for late payments and foreclosure relief scams.

And topping out the top three, telemarketing fraud.

That's anything from phony sweepstakes and lotteries to fake government grants and counterfeit check scams.
