Crews worked overnight keeping a forest fire from spreading in Carteret County.
Officials with the U.S. Forest Service tell 9 On Your Side that they were fighting the fire off Pringle Road in Newport, that's just off Highway 24.
The fire started around 9:30 Sunday night and burned around 500 acres.
We're told it was mostly contained this morning and no homes are in danger.
