A face lift for New Bern! Construction upgrades are underway for the Union Station Train Depot. The city is partnering with private organizations to touch up the building. A new metal roof will be installed by mid-June to protect against deterioration. Other steps will be taken to rehabilitate the century-old station.
12 blocks away from the depot, the city has expanded an old storm water collection pond. It's been increased from 3,500 square feet to 15,000 square feet. The Public Works Department spent about a month at Biddle Street removing trees expanding the pond and replacing an old pump. Officials say the project moves water faster after a rain event.
