GARNER, N.C. -

Voters in Garner overwhelmingly passed a bond referendum Tuesday to help improve sidewalks, facilities and parks.

According to Rick Mercier with the town of Garner, nearly 1,700 voters cast ballots in the standalone election that passed a bond with a $35 million price tag.

$14.5 million will be used to improve streets and sidewalks.

$12 million will help improve town facilities.

$7.1 million will be used to expand and build parks and green ways.

And $2 million will go to community development.

Taxes could increase in Garner by up to 2.75 cents.

This is the first bond referendum the town of Garner has voted on in 13 years.
