NC-based airman charged in death of 15-month-old

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (AP) - The father of a 15-month-old boy is facing charges after the toddler's body was found on the side of a Columbus County road.

The Goldsboro News-Argus reports that Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Senior Airman Matthew Theurer is charged by U.S. Air Force investigators with voluntary manslaughter, negligent homicide and murder. He is currently being held in the Sampson County Pre-Confinement Facility.

Base officials said Wednesday that they were investigating the death of the boy, also named Matthew, and the discovery of the child's body in Columbus County on Tuesday.

The 4th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office has released no further details because it says the investigation is ongoing.
