It's the latest law signed by Gov. Pat McCrory making North Carolina's annual adjustments to state tax rules based on federal changes.
The law ends the state earned income tax credit after this year. It also drops the payout from 5% to 4.5%.
The governor signed the bill Wednesday.
State lawmakers decide every year whether to conform to federal tax changes. They decided to approve some and change others.
Several hundred thousand people seek the credit, which allows low-income families to collect checks if their tax credit exceeds what they owe in taxes. How much you get is based on how much you make and how many kids you have.
