Lawmen unleash "Infinite Justice" on Carteret, Craven, & Jones counties

NEW BERN, N.C. -

Several convicted sex offenders are back behind bars after a major sex offender operation spanning several counties.

The U.S. Marshals Service and several sheriff's offices discussed the details of their operation in New Bern Thursday.

Several agencies were involved in the sweep across Carteret, Craven, and Jones counties.

"We're going to hold them accountable, and they're going to abide by the law that's prescribed for them," said Sheriff Jerry Monette of the Craven County Sheriff's Office. "We're going to keep them all honest. And if they're not, then they're going to pay the consequences."

Deputies and marshals checked on all 229 convicted sex offenders living in those counties, knocking on their doors to make sure they were in compliance.

Officers arrested 8 of them and seized 3 firearms. They added some of the offenders were not living at their registered address.

"When offenders fail to register and comply with these laws, the citizens are put at risk," said Scott Thomas, district attorney of Craven, Carteret, and Pamlico counties.

Deputies say their operation was to send the message, if you're a convicted sex offender, they're monitoring you closely.
