The University of North Carolina Board of Trustees will hold an emergency meeting Monday to discuss personnel matters, the school announced Friday, but the announcement does not mean the hiring of a new chancellor is imminent.
Wade Hargrove, the chair of the trustees and a Raleigh attorney, told WNCN Friday night that the search for a new chancellor was on-going and progressing well, but a decision was not likely Monday.
Carolina has been searching for a new leader since Holden Thorp announced he would step down Sept. 16. Thorp has since announced he will leave UNC to become provost at Washington University in St. Louis.
Hargrove, reached before UNC's game at the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, said the school hopes to have a new chancellor in place by July 1 and hopes to have a decision this spring.
"We're making great progress," Hargrove said. He said he was "very pleased" with the search so far.
The meeting will be at South Building, the school's main administration building. The meeting will be at 11 a.m. and will be closed to the media.
UNC has set up a "chancellor search" website. On that site, the Chancellor Search Committee has meetings scheduled for March 25 and April 5. Of course, a hiring would supersede those meetings.
