North Carolina's Bishop Michael Burbidge says the focus shouldn't be about changing the message of the church. .

"Pope Francis is going to preach the gospel, and the eternal truths, that can't change. Now what can change is the way you do it. His own personality, his own style," said Bishop Burbidge.

A style, that focuses on reaching out to the poor or disenfranchised.

An approach Bishop Burbidge says is much needed in the church.

"Never allow anyone because of their state of life, because of their gender, because of their age feel less important, less loved," said Bishop Burbidge.

Pope Francis has publicly opposed gay marriage and birth control in his home country of Argentina. Though it's not a popular stance in today's society, Bishop Burbidge says other aspects of the church may see a change. .

"In recent weeks we learned that even the structure, even the organization he may have to look at that and make some changes to the process and procedures," Bishop Burbidge.

Bishop Burbidge along with many Catholics will be watching and waiting to see what Pope Francis has in store for the future of Catholic Church.
