CARY, N.C. -
A man from New York and a woman from Georgia won this year's American Tobacco Trail marathon.
Bryan Morseman, 27, of Addison, N.Y. won the men's division in 2:25:55. Bridget Lyons, 25, of Evans, Ga. won the women's division in 2:54:51.
Organizers say 5,000 runners started the Tobacco Road Marathon in Cary Sunday morning.
The event began at 7 a.m. at the USA Baseball Complex at Thomas Brooks Park.
The route wound through Cary and Wake County using 20 miles of the American Tobacco Trail.
$8,500 in prize money was at stake as well as a birth in the Boston Marathon.
Allscripts sponsored this year's marathon. Bay Six sponsored the accompanying half marathon.
Money raised from entry fees is going to charities including the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Red Cross, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
