Volunteers clean Jordan Lake

Posted: Updated:

Clean Jordan Lake volunteers did their part Saturday, sending 109 volunteers to the annual Haw Rive Assembly's Clean-Up-A-Thon. Trash was collected on the shoreline from Poe's Ridge Boat Ramp to B. Everett Jordan Dam.

Trash from illegal dumping and storms accumulates on the shoreline and the responsibility for keeping the lake clean falls on those who volunteer. There is no state, county or local government agency that is responsible for making sure the shores stay clean, according to the volunteer organization.

Since 2008 more than 7,000 bags of trash and 2,700 tires have been removed from the shorelin, the group said.

Clean Jordan Lake was co- founded in 2009 by Thomas Colson and Francis DiGiano. DiGiano is now president of the board of directors and helps facilitate the annual clean ups.
