UNC holds trustees meeting to address 'legal matters'

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

The University of North Carolina Board of Trustees held an emergency meeting Monday to discuss personnel matters, but the school did not announce a new chancellor.

Trustees chair Wade Hargrove said the meeting at South Building involved personnel issues and legal matters but did not give specifics because it was a closed meeting.

Carolina has been searching for a new leader since Holden Thorp announced he would step down Sept. 16. Thorp has since announced he will leave UNC to become provost at Washington University in St. Louis.

Wade Hargrove, the head of the trustees, said the search for a new chancellor was going well and that UNC was pleased by the number of people interested in the position.

UNC has set up a "chancellor search" website. On that site, the Chancellor Search Committee has meetings scheduled for March 25 and April 5. Of course, a hiring would supersede those meetings.
