DURHAM, N.C. -

A Durham man has been indicted on murder charges in connection with a January 2011 shooting on Canal Street.

Veshan Chambers, 24, was charged with fatally shooting Jimmie Lamont Harris Jr., 24, on Jan. 16, 2011.

Officers were responding to a "shots fired" call on Jan. 6 shortly before 5 p.m. When they arrived they found Harris lying on the steps in front of a home on Canal St.

A second victim, a 28-year-old man, was also shot and was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Investigators said Chambers and Harris knew each other and the shoot was not a random act.
